About Hawk Island Estates

Hawk Island Estates is a residential community located in an unincorporated area of Camden County, Missouri, along the shoreline of the 58,000-acre Lake of the Ozarks.  This man-made lake was created in the 1930s with the construction of a  hydroelectric dam (Bagnell Dam) on the Osage River.  By water, Hawk Island Estates is located at the 26-mile mark of the 92 mile-long lake.

Development of the subdivision began in the early 1980s.  There are currently 52 single-family homes in the subdivision and just a few undeveloped lots remaining.  Twenty of the homes are on lakefront lots, nearly all of which are located in one of two coves adjoining the subdivision.  Lot sizes in the subdivision vary greatly, but most range from 10,000 to 15,000 square feet.  Unlike many residential communities in this tourist area, the majority of homes in Hawk Island Estates are occupied by full-time residents.

The subdivision is governed by the Hawk Island Estates Property Owners Association, Inc. (HIEPOA).  Each property owner is a member of the Association and is entitled to vote in elections of the board of directors, approval of the annual budget, and on any matters submitted to the members.  The responsibilities of each property owner and the restrictions on use of their property are spelled out in the subdivision's Restrictive Covenants.

The Association provides state-approved water and sewer service to its residents.  Also, the property owners are entitled to use of the Association's swimming pool, tennis court and basketball/play area.  Electric, telephone and cable television lines in the subdivision are all located underground.    All of the roads in the subdivision are asphalt or concrete.  One (Hawk Island Drive) is currently owned and maintained by Camden County.  The other two (Island Court and Ridgeview Terrace) are owned and maintained by the Association.  Camden County placed a moratorium on taking over streets just as steps were being taken to transfer these two streets.

Hawk Island Estates does not have a community dock.
